New Research Showing Pure Maple Syrup May Cure Alzheimer's
Home Care Assistance - Toronto/York Region (HomeCareAssistance-Toronto.com), the leading provider of non-medical, in-home senior care in the Greater Toronto Area, is weighing in on new research showing pure maple syrup may cure Alzheimer's.
Researchers from the Krembil Research Institute out of the University of Toronto recently made an announcement at the American Chemical Society's annual meeting. They revealed that the clumping of two proteins, beta amyloid and tau peptide, can be prevented with the consumption of pure maple syrup. This is significant because when these two proteins clump together, it is usually a sign of Alzheimer's. (Source: Livascani, K., "Could This Sticky Treat Cure Alzheimer's Disease?" "This is a marked difference than the table syrup that ends up on the breakfast table. Pure maple syrup is taken directly from the maple tree without any of the added sugars or preservatives commonly found in the ones we typically pour over our morning meals."
Over 24 different studies were used in the research before coming to any conclusions. Other researchers from the same meeting also added that pure maple syrup can possibly extend the life of those already suffering from Alzheimer's. Lead researcher Dr. Navindra Seeram said the effects of syrup is similar to that in other natural foods such as green tea, berries, and red wine."This is crucial research being conducted and accumulated in our fight against Alzheimer's," Shevel continues. "Our caregivers at Home Care Assistance work directly with seniors suffering from Alzheimer's so we see the impact it has on the individual and their families. We all want a cure, and this is positive research that takes us one step closer."
